Function: Under the general supervision of the President/CEO, oversee the Community Food Resource Center, the social action unit of the Community Food Bank. The Center addresses economic and social justice issues, particularly food security, hunger, and poverty. Collaborating with other agencies, organizations, and social justice groups, the Center provides education and advocacy on food security issues; and, provides resources for people working to increase local food security, particularly access to healthy food.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervise and support Resource Center staff, interns and volunteers.
• Administer departmental programs of the Community Food Resource Center including Child Nutrition Programs, Community Education and Advocacy, Demonstration and Market Garden, Farmers’ Markets, Home Gardens Program, Marana Heritage Farm, and Young Adult Leadership.
• Supervise and mentor young adult leaders.
• Collaborate with community agencies, organizations and other groups to increase knowledge of food justice issues, including Food Bank response to issues.
• Maintain and expand education and advocacy programs on food security and hunger.
• Build and maintain community partnerships in regard to food security and poverty issues.
• Collaborate with Development staff to prepare funding requests.
• Oversee advocacy on behalf of people with low incomes on issues effecting food security, hunger, social and economic justice.
• Member of CFB Board Program and Public Policy Committees and CFB Management Team.
• Prepare and manage Resource Center budgets.
• Complete related assignments as requested by President/CEO.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent organizational, writing, communication, public speaking and computer skills
• Excellent management and supervisory skills, able to use appropriate judgement in all work environments
• 5-8 years working and organizing with community members on social, economic, and environmental justice issues desired.
• 4 years experience in local food system development desired
• Strong community building skills
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
• Ability to work with people with diverse economic, social and political backgrounds
• Ability to work with community members respectfully and with patience
• A team player with a good sense of humor
• Graduate degree desired
• Good driving record and a current and valid Arizona Driver License
• For company insurance purposes, at least 21 years of age
