NC: The Raleigh Downtown Farmer’s Market seeks Intern

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina

Hours: Wednesdays, 7 am – 3:30 pm; plus additional hours during the week (approximately 10 hours/week)

Mid April – October

This position will assist in the marketing and operations of the Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market, a program produced by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about farmers’ market management, event planning and management, volunteer management, social networking, customer service, and community development. It is also a physical job, and eligible applicants need to be able to be outside, lift heavy objects, and be on their feet for the duration of the market.

Responsibilities Include:

·         Day of market duties (see below)

·         Manage social networking websites for market.

·         Schedule and confirm musician schedules—make reminder calls.

·         Schedule and confirm non-profit booth schedules

·         Assist in event planning and execution

·         Community outreach

·         Volunteer Coordination

Day-of Market Duties include:

·         Staffing information booth

·         Providing excellent customer service- both to vendors and to shoppers

·         Assist market vendors when needed.

·         Setting out and Picking up “directional” A-boards in the few block vicinity of the market.

·         Set up and break down of additional market signage in the market (e.g. “welcome,” “signage”); Hanging banners at appropriate tents (e.g. Information Booth, Sponsor Banner)

·         Assisting in smooth logistics for vendor loading and unloading—may include traffic control, assisting vendors with unloading/loading

·         Assist ambassadors in tent set up, tie down, and break down and moving tables around

Qualifications:

·         Passion for local food and farms; knowledge of community food systems a plus.

·         Enthusiastic, pacesetter, sense of humor, and ability to go with the flow.

·         Interest in a physical component to the job.
