Slow Food USA seeks to inspire and engage everyday people through grassroots advocacy and local projects that move towards a just and sustainable food system. A non-profit movement-building organization, Slow Food USA has 225 volunteer-led chapters across the country,
representing more than 28,000 members and reaching a network of 160,000 people. Slow Food USA advocates for food and farming policy that is good for the public, good for farmers and workers, and good for the planet; creates youth programs to bring the values of eating local,
sustainable and just food to schools and campuses; and preserves and promotes vanishing foods and food traditions. Slow Food USA has seen explosive growth over the past 18 months, and we anticipate that growth continuing. The Slow Food USA national headquarters is located in
Brooklyn, NY.

Slow Food USA is seeking a motivated, strategic and highly skilled Director of Operations & Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Director of Operations & CFO will be responsible for developing a strategic operational and financial management infrastructure, and will be charged
with implementing and overseeing all financial and operational systems, protocols and policies. Areas of oversight include budget, accounting and finance, human resources, facilities and Information Technology contracts. The Director of Operations & CFO will report to the President and will be a member of the senior leadership team, working closely with other director-level positions, program staff, and the Board of Directors as appropriate. We are seeking a motivated, strategic and highly skilled Program Manager who will be responsible for overseeing Slow Food USA’s youth work, leading the development of innovative projects and campaigns that move towards good, clean, and fair food practices. The Program Manager also works in collaboration with the program staff to strategize, develop, and implement national grassroots campaigns that engage our network and the broader public to bring about change in the food system. The Delta Garden Study is a USDA/ARS funded childhood obesity prevention research study exploring the impact of school gardens  on middle school children’s fruit and vegetable intake, physical activity, academic achievement and social risk behaviors in the Delta Region of Arkansas. The Community Design Center of Minnesota is a 40 year-old non-profit community development organization. of organic agriculture

The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) seeks a Lead Researcher
to conduct a comprehensive review of U.S., Canadian, and European
scientific literature on the environmental and social impacts of
organic agriculture, including economic impacts on farms and society
as a whole (“multifunctionality”). The Lead Researcher will produce an
approximately 40-page report on the potential multiple benefits of
organic agriculture in North America with specific policy and research
recommendations and an annotated bibliography.

Applications are due to OFRF June 18. The position will begin July 1.

Maine: Gedalias Farm seeks Interns

Located on almost 1500 beautiful acres in Northern Maine, we are turning part of what was once one of the richest agricultural areas in the United States back into productive farmland. We are looking for interns interested in learning how to care for goats and other farm animals to help us build the farm. We need help birthing and watching the baby goats, monitoring the goat’s health and diet, trimming hoofs, dealing with overly affectionate nannies and horny, sometimes ornery Billies. Join us in putting up fences and helping the animals clear the land.

Learn with us as we prepare our approximately twenty acres of tillable land and about three hundred acres of rougher soil for farm crops. We are attempting to get all this land certified as organic. We are also experimenting with an organic rice crop. Rice has not been grown in Maine, but it is grown in northern China near the Siberian border as well as in northern Japan. (more…)

DC Central Kitchen provides meals to youth and adult clients at about 100 social-service agencies. The nutrition educator will promote healthy eating by teaching classes and providing other resources to DCCK cooks, clients and staff members at partner agencies, and students in the Kitchen’s Culinary Job Training class.

The nutrition educator will work closely with other DCCK staff members to develop and implement recommendations to improve the nutritional value of the 4,500 meals that the Kitchen distributes each day to clients in the DC Metro Area. She also will serve as a resource to staff members in other departments by working on select projects throughout the year that are aimed at increasing the nutritional quality of food and educating staff, clients and community partners on the critical importance of a nutritious diet. Apple Seeds, Inc. is seeking a person to fill the position of Apples in the Classroom Co-Coordinator.  This person will assist Apple Seeds in developing an educational program that promotes healthy food choices to students in Northwest Arkansas through the integration of participatory activities at schools and other partner organizations.  This is a Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) position, funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

The Apples in the Classroom Co-Coordinator will work with another VISTA member to facilitate project activities and help build sustainable organizational capacity for Apple Seeds.  Since this position is still fairly new, it offers the right person ample opportunities to be involved in a leadership role as the program grows. Elon University (NC) seeks a Campus Kitchen Program Coordinator to oversee all aspects of program operations for the Elon Campus Kitchen. S/he will be responsible for volunteer recruitment and training, food recycling and purchasing, meal and menu planning, creating and maintaining community contacts, meal distribution, publicity, fundraising, reporting and overall program management. The Coordinator will work with campus staff to facilitate the program in cooperation with other campus programs, such as academic service learning and co-curricular service programs as well as coordinate grant writing for local organizations and organize fundraising efforts among other duties. A bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience is required. Previous experience with community service programs, preferably on a college campus is desired.
