Our beautiful Hofa certified organic 8 acre farm has coffee, macadamia nut, hearts of palm, cacao and many varieties of exotic tropical fruit.  Some of the fruit we have: mangoes,  bananas, figs, cacao(chocolate), pineapples, guava, avocados, passion fruit, bread fruit, taro, papaya, oranges and many more.  Lots of greens, veggies and herbs from the gardens….We have an intern garden for you to learn and harvest in.  Food can be harvested from the farm and gardens. We also provide some food weekly to compliment your garden bounty.   We have nice living quarters for our interns. We live like a neighborhood here.  Everyone has some privacy and their own space. We are very organized on the farm. Michigan: Greater Lansing Food Bank seeks Food Sourcer

    Deadline: Friday, June 25th at 5:00 pm

    The food sourcing position is created to procure additional nutritious food into the local emergency food system for the tri-county region of Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton counties initially with potential of expanding to an additional four counties. The position is jointly supported by the Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) and the MidMichigan Food Bank(MMFB) and is housed with and managed by the GLFB.

    The food sourcer will identify and approach all food businesses (farmers/growers, wholesalers, processors, retailers, commercial and institutional kitchens, etc.) in the tri-county region to solicit contributions of free or reduced cost food for those in need of food assistance through the existing programs and partnerships of the GLFB and MMFB. The food sourcer will track all contacts, record all procured and distributed food, recognize all contributions, and coordinate with GLFB and MMFB operations to ensure that food received is distributed appropriately. DC: Community Food Security Coalition seeks Senior Policy Director

CFSC is the premiere national organization promoting local food systems and access to healthy food for all persons. Established in 1994, CFSC has 450 organizational members across the US and Canada. The Community Food Security Coalition catalyzes food systems that are healthy, sustainable, just, and democratic by building community voice and capacity for change.  The Coalition achieves its goals through a comprehensive blend of training, networking, and advocacy to further the efforts of grassroots groups to create effective solutions from the ground up.

CFSC has successfully pursued policy changes within the Farm Bill, and also plays an advisory role in state and local policy issues. The Coalition led the effort to create the Community Food Projects Competitive Grants Program, as part of the 1996 Farm Bill.  CFSC has been successful in doubling funding for this program, as well as gaining passage of mandatory funding for a farm to school grant fund in the Senate version of the 2009 Child Nutrition Act reauthorization. CFSC advocacy has focused on a range of nutrition and agriculture policies, and is branching out to include other federal policies that affect food systems. (more…)

The Urban & Environmental Policy Institute (UEPI) is a community oriented research and advocacy organization based at Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA. UEPI serves as the umbrella for a variety of affiliated programs addressing work and industry, food and nutrition, housing, transportation, regional and community development, land use, and urban environmental issues. UEPI functions both as an academic center with strong community ties and a community-based organization with a strong research and policy development capacity. UEPI includes a number of innovative projects including the Healthy School Food Coalition (HSFC), established in 2001 as a group of committed parents, students and teachers seeking to develop nutrition policies and mobilize the school community to improve access to healthy foods through the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs in cafeterias throughout LAUSD school campuses. Since its inception the Healthy School Food Coalition has been played a critical leadership role in advocating for policy adoption and full implementation of the Healthy Beverage Resolution (2002), Obesity Prevention Motion (2003) and the Cafeteria Improvement Motion (2005).
