Chicago: Author seeks Book Research Intern

BOOK RESEARCH INTERNSHIP
I am a Chicago-based writer working on a book called Seasonal Markets of the Heartland, to be published by University of Illinois Press. Last summer and fall I took off in my sporty red Mustang to explore farmers markets in eight states:  Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri.  Now back at my desk in Chicago, I find a need for a detail-oriented intern to help pull together the final sections.  The book will be 65,000 words (about 250 pages) with about 80 color photographs. Position Description:
Our Urban Initiative works with clusters of community-based organizations to develop food systems and urban agriculture projects and enterprises in Rockford, IL. The position provides program management leadership for the Learning Center’s Urban Initiative Rockford and coaches community leadership teams to plan, budget, implement and evaluate their food system projects, and to build capacities (through customized training and coaching) to sustain the projects. The University of Mississippi seeks a postdoctoral teaching fellow and adjunct assistant professor in Southern Studies for 2011-2012.
 
The successful candidate should have a Ph.d. by the time of appointment and should study the relationship between foodways and cultural life in the American South. Teaching responsibilities will include two courses–a Southern Studies course entitled Foodways and Southern Culture and a second course related to foodways in his/her discipline, i.e., History, English, Sociology, Anthropology, or another liberal arts discipline. The Community Food Center Planning Coordinator works as a team with Corvallis Environmental Center staff members, planning committee, community stakeholders and partner organizations to formulate and implement a 12-month community planning process to inform the design and construction of a Neighborhood Food Center.  The Coordinator will coordinate a strategic planning process by developing community partnerships, conducting community assessments, and facilitating multi-stakeholder meetings.
