The Volunteer Coordinator Intern will assist with:

• Developing Web & Social Networking Presence (Ongoing)
• Community Workshops – Seed Give-aways (March – May)

• On-site Garden Preparation (March – May)

The VC Intern will help build a diverse base of volunteers, with particular focus on involving underserved communities wherever possible. Summer Internship at Alaska Pacific University’s Spring Creek Farm, Palmer, AK

Spring Creek Farm is looking for a summer organic farming intern to work from May 1 to August 31. We are sustainably managed CSA farm in our 5th year. We are located on Alaska Pacific University’s 800 acre Kellogg Campus, a mix of fields and forests under the Talkeetna Mountains in beautiful Palmer, AK. The CSA farm program grows vegetables on a little more than an acre for 50 members, 2 farmers’ markets, and a local restaurant. Much of the remaining land owned by Alaska Pacific University is leased to a hay farmer. The campus is also home to APU’s graduate program in Outdoor and Environmental Education, a home school outdoor enrichment program, and other environmental education programs. (more…)

Bill and Patrice Bobier have farmed this land since 1971, providing food for themselves and others. They do the whole gamut – 50 family CSA, farmers market sales 1 day a week, all sorts of veggies, beef & chickens, possibly pigs again, baby chicks, and tend field crops so there’s some tractor work. They hope to put up a couple of larger hoophouses this year, too. They try to be available for teaching moments as much as possible. And can offer a lot of hand’s-on work experience and relay a lot of info over meals. A great opportunity for those looking to learn about natural, whole-farm systems, community-based agriculture with some of the most knowledgeable and experienced farmers anywhere. (more…)

Duke Farms Community Garden
Duke Farms Community Garden provides people in the local community the opportunity to grow their own healthy produce in an environmentally friendly way.  Located on Dukes Parkway West near the future Duke Farms orientation center, the garden area is fenced and will be open daily from dawn to dusk. Participants will be required to care for their plots April through November using organic practices, their own seeds or plants, and their own garden tools.
Job Summary
The Coordinator Assistant for the Community Garden is a part time seasonal member of the Designed Landscapes Group.  This hands-on position works May through October and is responsible for supporting the day to day operations of the community garden.   Reporting to the Team Leader for Designed Landscapes, this position will assist the Community Garden Coordinator in ensuring smooth garden operations by performing daily gardening tasks, monitoring the participants and supporting other related activities. The goal of this position is to increase Just Food’s capacity to provide greater access to healthy food in low-income neighborhoods, keep small-scale family farms in business and provide support and technical assistance to farmers in the Just Food network. The Farm Network Coordinator will be responsible for increasing farmer participation and supporting those farmers providing food to NYC communities through the Fresh Food for All, CSA in NYC, and The City Farms programs. The Farm Network Coordinator will also work with Just Food’s Farmer Advisory Committee, which includes 8 regional farmers and cooperative extension agents, for generating ideas and gathering feedback. Virginia: The Route 250 Project/Allegheny Mountain School seeks six Fellows

The Route 250 Project / Allegheny Mountain School (AMS) is Tricycle Gardens’ latest endeavor, starting spring of 2011.  The mission of this project is to provide intensive training for young adults in sustainable agricultural and ecological systems development and management.

For Year One, we are building a team of six fellows interested in participating in an 18 month intense, experiential, hands-on education program focused on rural and urban ecology.  These fellows will spend the first six months living, working and learning on a rural and remote farm, on the western edge of Highland County, Virginia before returning to Richmond, VA to work alongside Tricycle Gardens (or a partner agency) for the next 9-12 months.
