Oklahoma: Shepherd’s Cross, Inc. and Heart of the Shepherd, Inc. seeks Interns

Shepherd’s Cross, Inc & Heart of the Shepherd, Inc, owned by Mr. Peter and Dr. Diane Dickinson (a licensed veterinarian) is a sustainable farm that is in the process of becoming animal-welfare certified.  Situated on 80-acres, sheep are raised for wool and meat.  There are other farm animals to care for as well.  It is also a ‘Made in Oklahoma’ company, and member of the Oklahoma Food Coop.  Heart of the Shepherd is the non-profit Christian mission that does the Bible studies, mission support, etc.

We are seeking interns for Shepherd’s Cross Inc. (sheep farm) and Heart of the Shepherd Inc. (Christian mission). There are 3-month or 6-month internships available, full-time or part-time; no benefits, Sundays off.  Internships may be tailored to meet the needs of the individual (job, school) and/or farm.  This job involves DAILY, outdoor physical labor – interns must be in good health and able to handle heat and/or cold.  This is a working farm, so hours vary seasonally, and will NOT be 8-5.  Dr. Dickinson can work with the requirements for college credit internships.  Heart of the Shepherd, Inc is non-profit, so internships can count as volunteer hours. California: Sierra Bounty Produce Collective seeks two Interns

Sierra Bounty Produce Collective is an organization dedicated to promoting grassroots efforts to enhance the ecological, social, and economic sustainability of local agriculture in the Eastern Sierra of California. We offer a 75-member CSA with food sourced from multiple high altitude mountain farms. We also conduct activities with our member farms to improve their sustainability, yield, and support general operations. We are seeking two interns for this summer (2011) to help run the CSA and coordinate commercial sales of produce to restaurants and grocers. You can expect to gain lot of experience in what it takes to run a successful non-profit, hands-on experience at our partner farms, and a chance to live in one of the most spectacular settings in the United States, the Eastern Sierra region of California. California: Live Earth Farm seeks Organic Farm Education Intern

Live Earth Farm, established in 1996, is a 100 acre diversified, organic, family farm overlooking the Pajaro Valley in the Santa Cruz area of California.  We offer a year round CSA with 850 members during the regular season.  We grow 50 different fruits and vegetables ranging from perennial fruit trees to a wide variety of annual crops. We sell our produce at five area farmer’s markets and through our CSA program.

We are offering a Farm Educator Apprenticeship.  This apprenticeship will have a unique focus on our education programs.  The apprentice will spend at least 80% of their time on these activities and the other 20% on farm tasks.  Education programs include, but are not limited to: a weekly visit by 7th and 8th grade Montessori students, half day farm tours for students of all ages, once monthly home schooling family visits, and a diversity of community farm days. Overview of position

We are looking to fill a key position on our team. The primary responsibility of this position is to review applications and assist in the product review program. The review program assesses which input products or ingredients are allowed for use in organic agriculture and food processing. 

Qualified candidates for this coordinator position will have some background in agricultural, biological, chemical or food science with knowledge of regulatory policy, project coordination, the organic industry, and organic certification. (more…)

  • To present recommendations on possible steps with a view to achieving progressively the full realization of the right to food.
