Jones Valley Urban Farm seeks a Farm Manager

22 Feb

Location: Birmingham, Alabama

We are accepting applications until March 5th, 2010

Jones Valley Urban Farm is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable agriculture and healthy eating.  We started by turning vacant land into production organic farms, working with neighborhoods, high school students, and volunteers.  In the last 8 years we have become a community-wide source for local organic produce, hands-on science education, and policy advocacy.

Our produce and flowers are sold to local restaurants, at farmers’ markets, and through food box subscriptions to help support our programs.  We have developed an accredited high school science course in conjunction with the Alabama School of Fine Arts, an elementary nutrition education field trip program called Seed 2 Plate, and we offer adult gardening and nutrition classes in conjunction with developing community gardens.  Each summer we hire graduates of our high school program to work as farm interns and we also offer focused college internships.

Jones Valley Urban Farm added the 25 acre Mt Laurel farm in 2009.  This working farm adds a tremendous amount of capacity for production of vegetables, fruits and flowers, as well as providing greater opportunities for JVUF to provide educational and outreach opportunities.
