Massachusetts: Waltham Fields Community Farm seeks two Assistant Growers

16 Dec
Waltham Fields Community Farm seeks two Assistant Growers for the 2011 season.  Work with our experienced managerial staff to learn the ins and outs of vegetable growing, crew management, equipment operation and maintenance and farm planning and budgeting on a vibrant, 11-acre community farm.  Assistant Growers are considered farm managers-in-training; we emphasize strong, individualized in-the-field instruction and experience as well as regular field walks, small group learning, and work exchanges with other local farms.

We expect applicants to have a powerful work ethic and a sense of humor about farming and themselves.  We prefer candidates with some farm experience and a desire to farm for a living in the future.  A valid driver’s license and the ability to lift 50 pounds are important qualifications for the Assistant Grower position.  This full-time, seasonal position runs from May through October 2011.  No partial season applications for these positions are possible.

Compensation includes $475 per week, produce from the farm, health insurance and professional development stipends, and paid leave commensurate with WFCF’s personnel policies.  Because no housing is available on our farm, Assistant Growers are expected to make arrangements for their own housing in our area.

To apply for these positions, please send a resume and brief letter of interest to Amanda Cather, by email (strongly preferred) at amanda@communityfarms.org, or by mail at WFCF, 240 Beaver Street, Waltham, MA  02452.
