Hidden Villa is a 1,600 acre organic farm and wilderness preserve located 45 minutes south of San Francisco, CA. We hire 55 seasonal staff every summer and our mission is to create young leaders committed to environmental and social justice with the tools to make change in their communities.

65 years ago we became the first multiracial summer camp in the country. Today we have fun with diverse youth on our farm and in the back country while shaping the next generation of young, multicultural leaders. A typical day at camp includes singing, farm chores, fun activities and experiential programming that focus on topics like race, class, gender, sexuality, food justice, and so much more. This isn’t just another summer job, it’s a job that impacts our world.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS
 
Day Camp Counselors: (9 positions, $275/week + DOE) Day Camp counselors work with approximately seven campers ages 6 to 9, Monday through Wednesday 8:00 am – 6:00 pm and Thursday 8:00 am through Friday 5:00 pm (staff sleep on site for a camper’s overnight). Extended hours during staff training. Counselors lead their group through activities on the farm and trails of Hidden Villa. They are responsible for cultivating the genuine curiosity, self-esteem, and well being of the campers. Needs to be at least 18 years old. Must be available June 10-Aug. 20. (Day Camp counselors have the option to camp onsite during the summer)

Staff lead an activity daily incorporating Hidden Villa values and resources, participate in all camp activities and nighttime supervision of campers. Must show enthusiasm for having responsible fun. Needs to be at least 18 years old. Must be available June 10-Aug. 20.

Residential Counselor Lifeguard: (1 position, $300/ week + DOE + room & board) Work and live with campers and staff. Responsible for recognizing and meeting the needs of individual campers, and working to develop a sense of community within the group and the camp. Youth Leadership Counselor: (1 position, $275/week + DOE + room & board) Work as a counselor in the Youth Leadership Programs teaching teens to work with children as well as teaching leadership & life skills. Develop and lead workshops including but not limited: Age-Characteristics, Behavior Management, Conflict Resolution & Social Justice. Support a group of 12 campers on a 9 day backpacking trip from Hidden Villa to Wadell Beach in Santa Cruz twice during the summer. At least (1-2) years working in camping or equivalent experience and experience working with teens. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Must have a strong interest in developing camp programs. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 10-Aug. 20.

Youth Leadership Program Head: (1 position, $325/week + DOE + room & board) Excellent communications skills, ability to relate to and supervise others, excellent organizational skills. At least three (3) years working in camping or equivalent experience, with at least one year as a supervisor. Responsible for the overall management of Youth Leadership Programs. Responsibilities include teaching teens to work with children as well as teaching leadership & life skills. Develop and lead workshops including but not limited: Age-Characteristics, Behavior Management, Conflict Resolution & Social Justice. Coordinate and support a group of 12 campers on a 9 day backpacking trip from Hidden Villa to Wadell Beach in Santa Cruz twice during the summer. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers and for older youth. Must have a strong interest in developing camp programs. Experienced as an environmental educator or teaching a plus. Experience working with High School age youth a plus. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 3-Aug. 20.

Program Heads: (8 positions, $325/week + DOE + room & board) Excellent communications skills, ability to relate to and supervise others. At least three (3) years working in camping or equivalent experience, with at least one year as a supervisor. Responsible with co-program head for managing one of four programs (Day Camp, Tipi Camp, Resident Camp, Farm and Wilderness) which includes supervising staff, ACTs (counselor in training) and campers in the program. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Must have a strong interest in developing camp programs. Experienced as an environmental educator or teaching a plus. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 3-Aug. 20.

Arts & Crafts Coordinator: (1 position, $300/week + DOE + room & board) Training and experience in arts and crafts, ability to teach a wide variety of art activities to a wide range of young people, order and maintain supplies within an established budget, keep A&C hut organized and clean, self-motivated, ability to work independently as well as with others, excellent time management skills. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 19 years old. Must be available June 3-Aug. 20.

Outdoor Equipment Coordinator/Archery Instructor: (1 position, $300/week + DOE + room & board) Coordinate the use of outdoor equipment, such as stoves, backpacks, bikes and water purifiers. Train staff and campers in the proper use of equipment. Repair and maintain equipment as necessary. Documented training and experience in teaching archery to children. Maintain archery equipment and assist in coordination of all camp activities. Help set-up for outdoor activities including, but not limited to over night trips. Detail oriented ability to maintain accurate equipment records, plan equipment use appropriately for camp activities. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 19 years old. Must be available June 3-Aug. 20.

Seasonal Program Manger: (1 position, $400 per week + DOE + room & board)
As part of the Administrative team candidate needs at least tow (2) years working as a supervisor in camping or equivalent experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: develop and lead workshops during staff training, provide feedback from activity observations, registration support, respond in emergency situations as person in charge, supervise evening programs. Experience teaching to children of diverse age ranges and ability to coach individuals in teaching techniques and group management. Experience with conflict resolution and positive behavior management. Ability to enforce summer camp policies and model appropriate behavior for all of staff. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 1-Aug. 25.

Health Care Manager / Nurse: (1 position, $450-$575/week + DOE + room & board)
Licensed RN or LVN desired. Will consider EMT certified candidates. Experience with children and young adults. Ability to monitor health care, maintain records and supplies, implement health care plan and manage an established budget. Desire to live and work in a camp community. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 3-Aug. 20.

Lifeguard: (1 position, $300/week + DOE + room & board) Current Lifeguard Certification, CPR & First Aid required; WSI preferred. Oversee all aspects of the pool – free swim, pool orientations, safety of deck and pool related evening activities. Supervising pool watchers & counselor lifeguards. Inventory and maintain equipment. Also responsible for serving as a member of all camp management staff. Must be able to be a role model among peers. Needs to be at least 21 years old. Must be available June 3-Aug. 20.

Kitchen Assistants: (4 positions, $300/week + DOE + room & board) Support food service manager and cooks in serving three healthy and fresh meals to residential campers and staff. Experience with food preparation and kitchen maintenance. Desire to work in a camp kitchen. Ability to learn to do tasks as assigned. Ability to lift weight of 50lbs. Ability to relate well with others and work around children. Must be available June 10-Aug. 20.

Cooks: (2 positions, $12/hr +DOE + housing negotiable) Current Safe Serve certification preferred.
Work with Food Service Manager to estimate needs, and to order, receive and store food and supplies. Assist in training kitchen staff. Function as a general all-around cook for all meals and special events. Ability to plan and prepare foods for special needs groups and those with dietary restrictions (Vegan, Food Allergies, etc). Maintain kitchen with a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety. Experience as a cook and/or assistant cook, preferably at a camp. Ability to relate well with others in a camp setting. Must be available June 3- Aug. 20.

Food Service Manager: (1 position, $14/hr +DOE + housing negotiable.) Current Safe Serve certification preferred. Oversee all of Camp’s Food Service, supervise and train a six person kitchen staff. Meet needs for all camp programs. Maintain kitchen with a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety. Responsibilities include: Menu planning, ordering, cooking, inventory, scheduling and payroll. Ability to plan and prepare foods for special needs groups and those with dietary restrictions (Vegan, Food Allergies, etc) Excellent communication skills, ability to relate to and supervise others. Experience in a camp or institutional food-service setting. Must be available June 2-Aug. 20.
