Kentucky: Kentucky Association of Food Banks seeks Executive Director

Classification: Full Time

Position Description: The Executive Director shall carry out the organizational goals and objectives, policies and administrative duties of the Kentucky Association of Food Banks as defined by the Board.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage day-to-day operation of the KAFB
    • Set up and manage an efficient functional office to support operations and networking
    • Develop effective financial, communications and management systems
    • Create and support networking and learning opportunities for food bank staff
    • Secure and maintain Feeding America PSA status
  • Source and Secure Food for Member Food Banks
    • Raise funds from the private and public sectors to purchase food
    • Identify untapped sources of food donations available within the state (e.g. food producers associations) and solicit donations
    • Manage and execute the Kentucky Farms to Food Bank program.  This includes supervising all purchases and deliveries to produce throughout the state, acting as liaison between food banks and farmers, promoting the program within the farming industry, and working with individual food banks to maximize their utilization of the program
  • Secure funds to sustain the KAFB, drive its mission and accomplish its goals.
    • Serve as a liaison to state and national level funders in coordination with member food banks
    • Identify, solicit and apply for public and private funds, including federal and state government, public and private foundations, and individuals, for the operation of KAFB
  • Increase awareness of hunger in Kentucky and the visibility of Feeding America food banks.
    • Develop and execute public relations strategies to raise awareness of hunger, its causes and its solutions
    • Develop contacts with media outlets statewide and serve as KAFB spokesperson
    • Create content and collateral materials for statewide messaging
    • Participate in and coordinate statewide releases of national and statewide information
    • Develop and implement a social media strategy and web presence
    • Participate in selected statewide advocacy organizations
    • Forge partnerships that support the work of KAFB
    • Represent the KAFB and the issues of food banking and hunger relief to local, state and federal government officials and advocate for hunger-relief policies


  • Bachelor’s degree from a four year accredited institution, master’s degree preferred, but not required
  • A minimum of five years of work within the agricultural industry, food banking or trade association arena
  • Direct experience working with and managing Board members
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge, experience and success working with, writing and receiving grants from corporate, foundation, and governmental funding sources
  • Demonstrated understanding of fiscal accountability and financial management
  • Working knowledge of public relations, marketing, and community and governmental relations
  • Ability to initiate and maintain successful collaborative ventures with other organizations
  • Sound administrative skills and computer/technology proficiency
  • Must live within 90 miles of Frankfort

  • Leadership and management skills to work effectively with the Board
  • Ability to take initiative and utilize innovative techniques to reach organizational goals
  • High integrity and moral character, supporting the mission, philosophy, policies and ideals of the KAFB
  • Maintain confidential information

Salary range: $45,000-$55,000 depending on experience.  Benefits included.
