Pennsylvania: Grow Pittsburgh seeks Apprentice

For the 2011 growing season, Grow Pittsburgh has established a paid apprenticeship opportunity to work and learn at the Braddock Farms site.  The position will be part-time April through October.  The time commitment between April and mid-May will be 12 hours a week; mid-May through July at 30 hours a week; and continuing through October at 16 hours a week.
Apprenticeship duties include a commitment to the farm and many aspects of the operation including watering, weeding, mowing, mulching, propagation, transplanting, fertilizing, harvesting, processing produce, and farm stand.  The apprentice will also share the responsibilities of supervising farm volunteers, and table for Grow Pittsburgh at events.  Someone with a strong interest in sustainable and organic agriculture, vegetable gardening, and urban farming is desired for this position, and some previous growing experience is required.  Applicants must be self motivated, meticulous, punctual, and friendly.  Educational experience will be gained informally through the day to day work and particular aspects of organic growing will be addressed as they come up.  A flexible schedule is required, work will include early mornings, and sometimes late evenings and weekends.  Compensation will be at the rate of $10/hour.
