Stone Barns Center is hiring for three part-time Specialist positions for our Summer Farm Camp. We are seeking a Food and Nutrition Specialist, a Craft Specialist, and a Livestock Education Specialist. All positions will be supervised by the Farm Camp Director. The Livestock Education Specialist will be jointly supervised by the Farm Camp Director and the Livestock Manager.
-The Food and Nutrition Specialist is responsible for planning lessons on nutrition and teaching kids how cook healthy, seasonally inspired recipes. The successful candidate must have previous culinary or nutrition experience and must be willing to work with farmers to source ingredients primarily from the farm. Applicants must be available to work Monday-Friday from June 20 through August 19, 2011.
-The Craft Specialist is responsible for presenting lessons on cottage crafts for children entering first through eighth grade. The successful candidate must be familiar with a variety of cottage crafts (i.e. fiber arts, candle-making) and be able to create lessons based on materials largely sourced from the farm. This position has flexible dates and hours, however there is a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week from June 20 through August 19, 2011.
-The Livestock Education Specialist is responsible for creating and facilitating hands-on, project based livestock lessons for campers entering first through eighth grade. The successful candidate must be comfortable teaching about the animal husbandry on the farm and must be familiar with the types of animals we raise, including sheep, pigs, chickens, geese, turkeys and bees. Mornings will be spent with the livestock staff doing chores and afternoons will be devoted to camper education. Applicants must be able to work Monday-Friday, from June 20 through August 19, 2011, however an earlier start date can be negotiated.
