SAGE is seeking a part-time Education Coordinator for the Sunol Water Temple Agricultural Park (“Sunol AgPark”). The Sunol AgPark Education Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating public education programs and events at the 18-acre Sunol AgPark in the spring of 2011. SAGE is a dynamic nonprofit that develops innovative urban-rural linkage projects, including Agricultural Parks and Foodshed Assessments. This is a part-time contract position (approximately 20 hours per week), starting March 1 and running thru mid-June. There is a strong likelihood of this position becoming a
permanent staff position at the end of the contract period.
Conduct outreach for, schedule, and coordinate Sunol AgPark Spring Public Education program
o 16 AgPark field trips and service-learning days for 4-12
o 3 Saturday family volunteer events
o A docent training and spring field day
Provide direct instruction to 4-8
grade students, based on our new Farming in the Watershed
Coordinate program evaluation with partners.
Assist AgPark Manager with Sunol AgPark infrastructure development, as time allows, including
design and construction of an outdoor classroom and cold storage facility.
Demonstrated experience with: outdoor education, sustainable agriculture, community outreach,
and/or natural resource stewardship.
Direct teaching experience with a diversity of audiences, 4-8
Excellent communication and organization skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
An ability to independently travel between our downtown Berkeley office and Sunol.
Experience with program development and grant proposal writing desirable, but not required.
Compensation and workplace: Contract rate is modest and commensurate with experience. Workplace
is the David Brower Center in downtown Berkeley and at the Sunol AgPark in Sunol. Hours are
somewhat flexible aside from scheduled public events, and some telecommuting is possible.
