Make a difference in the community and spend a year in rural Oregon while delivering hands-on cooking and nutrition education to low-income community members. Become an AmeriCorps member and work with Oregon Food Bank’s Regional branch in Ontario, Oregon and Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters to gain valuable skills in program coordination and volunteer management while working with a successful non-profit.
Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters is a ground-breaking nutrition-education program that helps families by teaching them how to prepare healthy low-cost meals and receive the most nutrition from a limited budget.
We are seeking an AmeriCorps member to work with staff to implement effective cooking-based nutrition education courses for low income families using seven specialized curricula. The member will support this volunteer staffed program and develop and maintain partnerships with Malheur and Harney County area community partners to expand services and build program capacity.
Member term and benefits: 1700 hours of volunteer service within a 10-12
month period. Members will receive from AmeriCorps a living allowance of $12,000, health insurance, training, child care, and an education award of $5,350 upon successful completion of service.
