Colorado: Venetucci Farm seeks Farm Hand and Summer Interns

Venetucci Farm is a 190 acre urban farm located on the southwestern edge of Colorado Springs, where we are dedicated to mindfully growing healthy food for the community, as well as providing meaningful education and volunteer opportunities to re-connect people with the source of their food.  The farm is owned and operated by the Pikes Peak Community Foundation. We are currently seeking intelligent, passionate, and hard working individuals interested in exploring careers in sustainable agriculture to fill the following positions:

Year-round Farm Hand:
We are in need of a year round farm hand to assist the Farm Manager with all tasks associated with the operation of a diversified farm. Tasks include planting, irrigating, cultivating and harvesting of row crops, as well as maintenance and upkeep of farm equipment, outbuildings, and grounds. Additionally this person will participate in the management of small scale pastured cattle, hog, and chicken operations. Farming experience and mechanical aptitude preferred. Passion for the health of the land and desire to learn about sustainable agriculture a must. Wage: $13.00-$15.00/hour plus CSA share and some benefits. Minimum two year commitment expected. Seasonal Summer Interns:
We are currently seeking young people to fill three summer intern positions for the 2011 growing season. Working closely with the farmers, interns will be involved in all aspects of the growing process, including bed preparation, laying drip tape, seeding, transplanting, thinning, trellising, weeding, mulching, mowing, harvesting, prepping produce, and record keeping. They will be responsible for proper washing, handling, packaging, and labeling of produce. They will also be involved in distribution at the farmers markets and CSA pick up. The position also includes some animal care responsibilities.  One of the intern positions will also be working part time with our Education Coordinator to assist with large school groups.
