California: Buddhist Retreat Center seeks Gardener

7 Mar
Work, learn and live at Ratna Ling Retreat Center,  a Buddhist community located in the beautiful coastal hills of Sonoma County in northern  California, about 3 hours north of San Francisco.
We are seeking  an  experienced  gardener for our fenced  raised bed veggie/flower garden and the newly developed  1/3 acre row veggie garden.
Includes accommodations, vegetarian meals, small living allowance of $150 per month and classes in various aspects of Buddhism.
We have a  fenced raised bed garden that needs management, planning, planting  and expansion. Includes flowers, vegetables and herbs. We have a newly turned 1/3 acre fenced row garden. Our goal is to be feeding our community of resident volunteers and paying guests from our home grown produce within 2 years.
Our vision is  to have the garden projects well developed enough that we can offer garden internships to people new into organic gardening.
But for  now we need those who are experienced, have planned and managed gardens in the past, are flexible and can work independently. Communication skills are also important for interfacing with our main kitchen.
The garden position will also include care of some of the site landscaping such as monitoring irrigation, pruning, etc.
Our all-volunteer staff work hard for little pay, but there are more than just material benefits: the beauty of the natural surroundings, the support of a community of like-minded people, and the invitation to explore ancient wisdom teachings can inspire a wealth of positive change.
People who like to work hard and have a sincere interest in Buddhism are a good match for us. Our weekly schedule is demanding (6 days a week) and rewarding.
Please call us or email if you are interested. See more details and photos at
You do not need to be Buddhist to apply.Sorry, we cannot accept children or pets.
