World Hunger Relief, Inc. is a Christian organization committed to the alleviation of hunger around the world.  Our activities include a 1-year agriculture missions internship, local education and outreach, and direct international assistance.  Our 40-acre Texas facility is operated as a working farm, generating produce for consumption and sale, and provides a real-world setting for training activities.  More information is available at www.worldhungerrelief.org.

Job Description

The Farm Operations Director is responsible for overall management of farm production, hands-on training of interns, and coordination of labor.   WHRI farm operations currently include:

  • 70-member fresh market community supported agriculture (CSA)
  • Livestock enterprises (Grade-A goat dairy, poultry, & beef cattle)
  • Certified Organic pecan orchard

The Farm Operations Director will oversee these enterprises with the assistance of a part-time Farm Operations Assistant, utilizing practices that enhance the health of the land.  These include sustainable fertility management, water management (drainage & irrigation) and integrated pest management. He/she will take on these responsibilities incrementally in coordination with the Executive Director who also serves as the direct supervisor.

Specific Duties (The Farm Operations Director is not expected to perform these duties, rather to see that they are carried out by Farm Operations Assistant, interns, volunteers and work-study students):

Manage interns and live-volunteers

  • Directly supervise work tasks for interns involved in produce and livestock enterprises:
    • develop and implement business plans
    • meet weekly to discuss tasks and priorities
    • follow up to assure production and marketing goals are met
  • Schedule daily farm work for interns and live-in volunteers (in coordination with Ed. Director)
  • Organize livestock chore responsibilities
  • Identify need for and hire wage laborers
  • Cover weekend needs on an on-call basis in rotation with other staff



  • Utilize work times to reinforce training concepts (in coordination with Executive Director)
  • Teach intern classes as needed
  • Serve as a resource for special projects of interns
  • Develop and implement skill training sessions for interns and live-in volunteers (in coordination with other staff)


  • Assist with special events and fund raising as needed
  • Purchase supplies
  • Oversee maintenance of grounds, out-buildings and roads

Qualifications Of The Ideal Candidate

  • A committed Christian with a desire to help the poor
  • 3-5 years practical experience in sustainable agriculture production
  • Interest in agricultural practices appropriate to the developing world
  • Experience supervising groups and individuals
  • Good verbal communication, motivational and supervisory skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • A team player


Salary will be determined by experience.  WHRI utilizes a flat salary structure for all staff.  Benefits include health insurance stipend, on-site housing, utilities, and seasonal produce.
