Hidden Villa Farm and Wilderness preserve is seeking an energetic, responsible team player for the position of Assistant Property Manager. Hidden Villa is a private, nonprofit educational organization with a 60-year history. We use our organic farm, wilderness, and community to teach and provide opportunities to learn about the environment and social justice. Hidden Villa stretches over 1600 acres of open space in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about 40 miles south of San Francisco. Our mission is to inspire a just and sustainable future through our programs, land and legacy.
The Assistant Property Manager works with the property team on a wide variety of maintenance tasks. In addition to maintenance tasks, duties include volunteer coordination and logistical support for educational programs and events.
Regular maintenance work includes: Mechanical repair of vehicles and farm machinery, the water supply system, swimming pool, landscaping and brush mowing as well as miscellaneous facility repairs using plumbing, carpentry and electrical skills. Many aspects of maintenance work involve planning and organization, efficient errands, tracking of materials and receipts and careful record keeping. Support for our programming and staffing events includes set-up and clean-up. Work circumstances range from closely supervised training, to teamwork; from self-directed troubleshooting and completion of repairs, to volunteer coordination. Work environments include mechanical rooms, construction areas, basements, attics, fields and forest trails. Emergency repairs may be necessary in inclement weather, and occasional evening and weekend work will be required. Opportunities exist for learning and teaching in a variety of skill areas including green building, organic farming, animal husbandry, Permaculture and environmental education.
Hidden Villa is an organization which oftentimes must change priorities. It is therefore a condition of employment that employees of Hidden Villa must be flexible and willing to take on other responsibilities for the good of Hidden Villa.
- At least five years experience in the building trades.
- Journeyman level mechanic skills.
- Intermediate experience with plumbing, carpentry and electrical.
- Experience planning and preparing tools and materials for projects, and supervising groups on projects; i.e. job crews, volunteers, events, etc.
- College level communication skills, including reading, writing and math.
- Computer literacy, including e-mail, spreadsheets and recordkeeping.
- Ability to use power tools, including a lawnmower, weed eater, chainsaw, tractor, etc.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to ascent ladders, bend, reach, twist, and walk frequently.
- A cheerful and courteous manner in working with the public and around children.
- DMV record and criminal background check required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full time, exempt position with salary DOE. Hidden Villa provides a benefit package that includes vacation and sick leave; medical, dental, acupuncture/chiropractic and retirement benefits. An onsite apartment residence is available. Hidden Villa is a nonsmoking environment.
Start date for this position is May 2011.
