North Carolina: Poplar Ridge Farm seeks Culinary Intern

Poplar Ridge Farm is seeking a part- or full-time culinary intern from May-August.

In conjunction with his or her culinary school or program, the intern will learn the process of organic farming and will be responsible for developing and preparing recipes and educational presentations for farm staff, CSA members and events.

The intern will harvest fruits and vegetables directly from the farm to the kitchen, create and publish original recipes in the weekly Poplar Ridge Farm newsletter, analyze and present nutritional information for recipes and ingredients, cook one lunch per week for the farm staff, educate staff and customers about the uses for various produce and ingredients, assist with the bi-weekly on-farm Market Stand, prepare sample recipes for CSA customers, and assist local chefs with community Farm-to-Table dinners.

The intern will work a regular schedule from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and some Saturdays, with hours until 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. He or she will also prepare and compile goals and learning objectives, daily journals, and a formal project into a working booklet.

About the Farm

Poplar Ridge Farm is an 80-acre horse and agricultural farm located in Union County, N.C., est. in 1995. We are 24 miles south of uptown Charlotte. Our climate during the early spring and into late fall is mild and summers can be hot and humid. We grow a wide variety of produce, flowers and herbs.

Our season begins mid-May and runs through December. One of the farm owners is a degreed educator who can supervise projects related to various undergraduate and graduate study projects for university credits. We have two greenhouses and two high tunnels. We are a large CSA and host farm events in which interns can participate.


Part- or full-time interns working in conjunction with culinary schools or programs will be accepted.

Accommodations and Compensation

The internship is not salaried. A stipend is available, and the intern will receive weekly produce. There are no accommodations available.
