Connecticut: Wholesome Wave seeks Director of Finance

THE POSITION

The Director of Finance is a full-time position reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for managing financial, human resources and administrative functions. This includes preparing the budget; conducting financial analysis and preparing financial reports; developing and implementing an effective system of accounting; managing the payroll system and maintaining accurate and current compliance records. This position is to be filled immediately.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in the provision of effective strategic, financial and human resources planning

and information

  • Provide financial and human resources advice and guidance to the Chief Operating Officer
  • Participate in strategic, financial and human resources planning
  • Research, prepare and submit the annual budget
  • Prepare detailed reports on financial, human resources and administrative matters
  • Attend meetings and make presentations to the executive team

 

Provide comptrollership functions in order to ensure finances are managed according to legislation, policies and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles

  • Manage accounting and financial systems and maintain full and accurate accounting records
  • Conduct financial analysis and prepare detailed financial reports and statements
  • Provide financial and accounting advice, direction and leadership
  • Ensure compliance with financial legislation, policies and procedures and adhere to the terms of Funding and Contribution Agreements
  • Develop and implement purchasing practices and monitor the purchasing system
  • Prepare tender documents and administer contracts
  • Respond to auditors’ comments concerning finances and operations and oversee required action to address deficiencies
  • Approve the Chart of Accounts and maintain commitment controls
  • Implement and monitor payment authority practices
  • Establish and maintain cash controls
  • Monitor department spending and recommend corrective actions as necessary
  • Manage investments and reserves
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts

 

Manage and coordinate human resources and administrative functions including personal administration and payroll

  • Manage the payroll contractor in order to ensure all staff are paid on a timely and accurate basis
  • Provide advice and assistance to Chief Operating Officer on human resource planning and management issues
  • Ensure personnel records and files are maintained
  • Maintain the Bylaw Registry
  • Assist in the preparation of Bylaws
  • Ensure the maintenance of computer systems within headquarters

 

Provide leadership and direction to Finance and Administration staff to ensure efficient use of human resources

  • Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with financial and human resources legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Manage the maintenance and upgrade of financial, payroll and human resources information systems

  • Payroll systems and reporting
  • Understanding of relevant municipal, state and federal legislation, policies and procedures

 

QUALIFICATIONS

1.     An interest in working to build sustainable food systems and supporting either underserved populations on health-related issues or small to midsize farmers—a plus

2.     Well-developed accounting skills

3.     Analytical and problem solving skills

4.     Computer skills including the ability to operate and manage computerized financial, payroll and human resource information systems at a highly proficient level

5.     Exceptional verbal, written and listening communication skills

6.     Organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate and work in multidisciplinary teams

7.     Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

8.     Very effective organizational skills

9.     Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work independently

10.  The flexibility to lead or follow under different circumstances

11.  A willingness to roll up one’s sleeves and contribute as needed to advance the program

12.  Bachelor’s Degree and/or work experience in accounting or business administration; preference will be given to CA, CGA or CMA candidates
