California: Educational Foundation seeks Intern/Apprentice

Educational foundation on cattle ranch in Pescadero, California, has an opening for an intern or apprentice during the summer and fall months within a sustainable, grass-fed cattle operation and educational non-profit. LeftCoast Grassfed and TomKat Ranch Educational Foundation seek a candidate to participate in all areas of the ranch, including–the holistic grazing program (checking and moving cattle, checking and fixing fences); alternative energy research (solar, wind, hydro, bio-diesel); educational tours to inner-city kids and summer visitors; ecosystem monitoring (bird surveys, frog surveys, vegetation surveys, plant or insect collection); produce and garden program (weed, water, harvest); and marketing (farmers’ markets, order fills, pickups). The position requires a willingness to provide supervision for two high school interns a few hours each summer week. Candidate must be available to work Saturdays and be in good physical condition. The ideal candidate is someone who is flexible, can tolerate harsh outdoor conditions, and willing to learn to drive an ATV.

Approximate dates: May 23 – November 7, 2011
Compensation: a competitive hourly wage based upon experience.
Hours: 30 hours a week.
