Vice President of Sales and Business Development
Marroquin is looking for a highly skilled, entrepreneurial Vice President of Sales and Business Development who
is seeking a leadership role within a dynamic, growing organization. An expert team manager, the Vice President
of Sales and Business Development will lead the sales and marketing effort for the full range of innovative
product lines at Marroquin, managing current clients and developing new business opportunities through
multiple sales channels. With an understanding of food product development, the Vice President of Sales and
Business Development will manage relationships with clients including manufacturers, toll processors, and
distributors. In addition, the Vice President of Sales and Business Development will represent Marroquin
externally, serving as the voice and educator on Marroquin’s unique and evolving organic products to clients and
the industry as a whole.
The successful candidate will have a background in management and sales, and experience in the food industry.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, creative, self-motivated, trustworthy, authentic, and comfortable working in
a flexible and rapidly changing environment. The Vice President of Sales and Business Development will report to
the President, and will supervise a small team of experienced sales professionals.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Vice President of Sales and Business Development will perform the following and other duties as assigned:
 Lead a regular strategic assessment of existing and potential sales channels and products.
 Implement strategic sales and marketing initiatives.
 Increase sales by identifying new opportunities for growth, including new client identification and
product positioning.
 Introduce new products to distributors, purchasing and sales agents, brokers, toll processors, and
 Support new product development, including product research, marketing, and pricing.
 Promote an organizational culture and structure that fosters cooperation, communication, collaboration,
teamwork, and trust.
 Provide leadership, direction, and support for all sales staff and directly supervise sales staff.
 Establish individual goals and objectives for each sales staff member and develop tools to measure
 Develop and implement sales-team incentive program to award excellent performance.
 Working with organizational management and outside resources, develop marketing collateral for the
organization, including press releases, web content, copy, and other print and online materials.
 Represent Marroquin at conferences, trade events, and to the media.
 Maintain active relationships within the industry in order to leverage appropriate market influencers and
provide guidance on company positioning.
 Provide executive leadership to the organization, giving input on company direction and organizational
strategy as appropriate.
The successful applicant will have the following minimum qualifications:
 10+ years work experience with 3+ years in a management role and 3+ years in the food and/or beverage
 Expert and inspired team and sales management skills, with past experience providing leadership to a
dynamic sales team
 A proven track record in sales and new client generation in the food industry—past experience in
ingredient sales, food product research and development, or value-added products a plus
 Client service orientation and superb client management skills
 Comfort representing the organization with executive-level management at multinational corporations
and international/national trade groups
 Familiarity with organic certification and regulations a plus
 Creativity required, experience in copywriting, developing sales collateral, art direction, and working
with external designers a plus
 Comfort with wearing many hats and shifting quickly between various responsibilities
 Excellent presentation, writing, and communication skills
 Passion for organics a plus.
 Comfort with regular travel to conferences and client sites
 Resourceful and inspirational attitude when interacting with both internal and external audiences
 High level of professional integrity
 Willingness to be flexible, adaptable, and proactive in a constantly changing industry
 Past experience developing markets for new products a plus
 Experience in a startup or in launching a new program/department a plus
 Experience in food product development a plus
 International work experience a plus
