Massachusetts: Union Square Farmers Market seeks Team Members

The Union Square Farmers Market, managed by Union Square Main Streets with the support of the City of Somerville,  is looking for new team members to assist with SNAP outreach/coordination, social media promotion, and general market day tasks. Please see below for descriptions. Looking to fill all positions immediately. 

Social Media Intern:
Purpose: To increase our following on facebook, twitter and our market blog.
Major responsibilities: Work with market manager to develop social media that promotes the market, as well as identifies Union Square Main Streets as a resource for food-related news, recipes, and updates.
Qualifications: Candidates with professional experience in outreach via social media, as well as blogging will be given preference.
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours a week from June-October, can be adapted to be June-August for students. A few prep hours in May.
Reports to: Market Manager

Local Food Accessibility Intern:
Purpose: To work with USMS team to increase SNAP transactions at market and outreach to area organizations about SNAP acceptance at the market.
Major responsibilities:
•       Creation of multi-lingual market materials (signs and promotional materials) to communicate SNAP acceptance at market
•       Outreach to housing programs, health centers, churches, and immigrant advocacy groups and others with information on SNAP acceptance at the market
•       Conduct and coordinate customer surveys and other data collection tools to assess the Union Square Market
•       As needed, assist with developing community partnerships, and coordinating dynamic programming of nutrition and educational events taking place during the market.
Qualifications: Minimum of 1-3 years experience working on food accessibility related projects. Preference will be given to candidates with skills in Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole.
Position is flexible, and there is opportunity to be involved in a variety of different ways, including being involved in the record keeping of SNAP acceptance, blogging or press, and other areas as well.
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours a week from June-October, flexible. A few prep hours in May to create materials and make plan for season.
Reports to: Market Manager

Kid’s Activities Volunteer:
We are looking for someone with a love of local food and experience with children to help develop activities for kids at the market.
Time commitment: Hours and the length of position are flexible. Position can end when kids activities are developed and passed on to be implemented.
Position can include assisting children with activities during market day on Saturday, but this is not mandatory.

Market Day Volunteer:
We are looking for assistance from 9am-1pm during the market to help with customer service, act as a greeter, and to help with kids activities. Contact us and sign up to be a part of our market day team.
Time commitment: Market is Saturdays 9am-1pm June 4th-October 29th. Please contact us if you are available for no less than 4 Saturday’s throughout the season (June through October).
