Summer Farm Crew Americorps Available!

Americorps Quarter Time Job Description: We will be looking to fill three quarter-time (3-5 month) Americorps National Service positions beginning in early spring/summer. Americorps is a community service orientated national program, where service members complete a set number of service hours, earn a weekly stipend, and receive an educational financial award at the end of their term.

This position is ideal for a college student or recent graduate who would like to engage in hands-on learning of the practices and principles of sustainable agriculture for the spring and/or summer season.  The position involves working alongside Full Circle Farm staff and volunteers in the production fields. We produce mixed vegetables and fruit for a diverse set of marketing avenues—an on-site Farm Stand, CSA, events/festivals, the Santa Clara Unified School District and local restaurants.

Primary duties include soil/bed preparation, propagation, direct sowing and transplanting of crops, irrigation, weed control, integrated pest management, and harvesting and other field related activities.  Americorps members work directly with community volunteers and large volunteer groups, strong interpersonal skills and competency giving instruction and training to volunteers are critical components of the job. Members are also involved with produce marketing and distribution.

Some experience involving organic vegetable and fruit production is strongly preferred.  Applicants MUST be prepared for the demanding nature of farm work including: physical labor/repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time, independent work, working in a variety of (hot/cold/wet) weather conditions, and regular lifting of 50+ pounds.

On-site interviews are strongly recommended.

Applicants must follow the Americorps application process through our parent organization, the Silicon Valley Health Trust. Please contact Katie Smith (katies@healthtrust.org) for information about the Americorps application process.
