Pie Ranch is a unique sustainable food system education and advocacy organization. We seek to inspire and create a new generation of farmers, educators, entrepreneurs, and advocates with the knowledge and the skills to work together to build a healthy, sustainable, inclusive food system. Our work is based on the assumption that a sustainable food system can only emerge when all communities understand and are accountable to each aspect of the system.
We are offering unpaid summer internships to enthusiastic, hard-working, self-motivated individuals interested in engaging in sustainable agriculture, food justice, and education on the farm. Interns are work alongside our Apprentices in all aspects of the work week, including sowing, planting, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting a variety of crops; animal husbandry; experiential education with youth and other groups; direct marketing through our farm stand, Cow or Goat Share Program, Community Supported Eggriculture program and sales to local bakeries including Mission Pie in San Francisco. Educational opportunities for interns beyond learning in the field include: a weekly field walk where questions & observations are encouraged; monthly classes in sustainable agriculture & social justice; monthly field trips with Central Coast CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) farms.
Interns are provided with a tent space, access to an outdoor kitchen/bathroom, food grown on the farm, and the chance to live & work in a beautiful, productive environment.
Our summer internship begins Saturday, June 18th and ends Saturday, August 27th. We request that interns stay for the entire time period. There is the possibility of staying an extra month to two months.
Deadline for applications is May 15th.
