Massachusetts: College-Prep Program Seeks Dynamic Science Teacher

21 May
The UMass-Boston Upward Bound program seeks a part-time science teacher to teach two courses in Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology for the 2011 Upward Bound Summer Program.  Upward Bound summer instructors are responsible for planning and implementing dynamic, engaging, empowering 6-week courses to motivated low-income, first-generation college-bound high school students as part of our residential summer program.  The coursework and classroom environment should encourage and reward reflection, revision, and improvement and integrate the yearly theme.  This year’s theme is Scholars Working in Community so science instructors are encouraged to be creative in incorporating issues around food justice, local agriculture, health disparities, and any other community-related science topics.  Each course meets for one hour, Mondays through Fridays.  The program begins on  June 27 and ends on August 4.  Instructors receive $1820 per course section and have the option of living on campus and receiving room and board for free.  All interested parties are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
To apply, please visit www.upwardbound.umb.edu/employment and click on Summer Instructors for more detailed information.  If you have any questions, please contact Program Director Erica Pernell at 617-287-5846 orupward.bound@umb.edu.
