El Colegio, a bilingual (English/Spanish) public charter school in Minneapolis is in the running to host a 1-year AmeriCorps position through the MN GreenCorps program.
We hope to hire someone for the 2011-12 School year to work with teachers to develop learning projects related to sustainability and help create sustainable projects
Local Food: Developing a Farm to School program to get more local, healthy food into our school nutrition program, and creating curriculum to go with it, using our kitchen and new community garden space.
Waste Reduction: Creating campaigns and curriculum to improve our recycling and composting projects at school.
Biking and pollution reduction: serving as an resource to student groups, including one that is developing a bike sharing project.
While we have not been notified if we will be a site yet, we are encouraging bilingual, awesome people with experience working with urban youth, to apply for these positions. Even if EC is not chosen, it’s a great opportunity to have a job that means something and gain valuable experience.
