Wisconsin: Organic Valley seeks Sustainability Program Manager

The Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for initiation, developing and managing co-op wide sustainability programs. The Sustainability Program manager will lead and team with others to reduce our overall ecological footprint as well as strengthen our social and economic endeavors through a programmatic approach. They will assist in goal setting and long range planning for the continual improvement. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

o       Oversee the Sustainability Department including programs and staff.

o       Identify and lead research initiatives for both Organic Valley and the industry as a whole.

o       Manage and develop the Sustainability Departmental budget.

o       Develop proposals and manage projects related to the Sustainability Department.

o       Policy writing for integration of ecological practices into all departments.

o       Manage the multiple initiatives with key partners within the industry around sustainability.

o       Evaluate, calculate and track return on investment in Sustainability.

o       Monitor latest best practices in sustainability.

o       Initiate and oversee grant opportunities.

o       Partner with Marketing to create the best messaging and public relations vehicles.

o       Lead the executive Sustainability Committee.

o       Communicate expectations by evaluating performance, providing timely feedback, training and coaching, and recommending personnel actions for assigned staff.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

o       Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

o       Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability or related field preferred.

o       Minimum of 2 years of experience in implementing sustainability programs/projects.

o       Previous supervisory experience preferred.

o       Ability to manage staff and motivate others.

o       Comfortable with interacting and communicating at the Executive level.

o       Ability to adapt to change.

o       Ability to keep up on emerging topics in sustainability.

o       Knowledge of measurement tools in sustainability and renewable energy systems. 

o       Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

o       Self starter and independent thinker.

o       Goal setting and long-term planning knowledge.

o       Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

o       Ability to work in office and travel as needed.
