Bowdoin Street Health Center in Dorchester is seeking a Community Health Specialist (CHS) to join our community health team and work with patients, residents and health center staff. The CHS will work on initiatives including, but not limited to managing the health center’s community farmers’ market, research and develop the health center’s healthy corner store initiative, oversee community group geared towards healthy foods in the neighborhood, improving community infrastructure to support healthy lifestyles and other community identified food access issues. This is a challenging and exciting position for a seasoned organizer in a multi-cultural community.

The Cooperative Food Empowerment Directive (CoFed) is a network and training program that inspires and equips college students to create hubs for sustainable, local food education and access on their campus. Over the last year and a half, we’ve helped over 15 teams begin to launch cooperative cafes and have been identified by the fast food industry as viable competition on college campuses. We’ve been featured in Good Magazine, the Huffington Post, and our director has been recognized as a Slow Money entrepreneur.

AVAILABILITY: Assistant should be willing to commit to the full duration of the market season, July through November 20. Assistants will work the market every other Sunday from 8:30am to 1:30pm and/or work during the week setting up for the weekend.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Extroverted personality a must. Outgoing, enthusiastic, dedicated and dependable. They should have an interest in working with people, be gently informative, and open to conversation, dialogue and other points of view. An interest and knowledge of local foods, organic foods, and how farmers markets build community is useful, but not absolutely necessary.
