Boistfort Valley Farm is an established 50 acre organic farm located SW of Chehalis, Washington, growing a wide variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers. We serve the area through sales at Farmers Markets, a 600 member CSA, direct sales to local stores and restaurants and wholesale. We have 25 seasonal employees.

Position Type: Full Time/Seasonal (reduced winter hours January-March)

Position Summary:

The Production Manager oversees daily harvest and packing of produce and ensures that all produce is of high quality and is efficiently harvested, processed, and packaged for delivery.  S/he is expected to take a leadership role in developing systems and structures to maximize safety, productivity, and efficiency. S/he will act as the liaison between the CSA Director, Field Boss, and the packing shed. This position will provide daily on the ground support and supervision for the pack crew and field crew. Washington State: Good Cheer Food Bank and Whidbey Institute seek Apprentice

Located on south Whidbey Island, Washington, the Good Cheer Food Bank has a .4-acre intensive, volunteer-based, garden growing over 5000 lbs of produce annually for the food bank. The Whidbey Institute has a .4-acre garden that is the living classroom for service learning programs and provides produce to the Food Bank and Whidbey Institute programs. The Good Cheer Garden and the Whidbey Institute are partnering to offer a 7-month training in community gardening and leadership skills, from April – October 2011.

We are seeking a motivated individual who wishes to gain skills for future leadership positions in the field of sustainable community gardening. This training will combine hands-on, practical growing skills in small-scale food production with the leadership skills needed to initiate and manage community gardening projects, to coordinate volunteers, and to implement education and outreach programs. Nettles Farm on Lummi Island seeks interns for the 2011 season.  Work will be at 2 sites on the island; the 2.5 acre Nettles Farm and 3 acres at Three Pheasants Farm, five minutes from Nettles.  Both are mixed vegetable operations, growing a wide variety of produce.  Additionally, Nettles has a small orchard and variety of berries.  Produce supplies the Willows Inn restaurant, recently named “one of ten restaurants worth a plane ride in 2011” by the New York Times.  Additionally, farm produce is sold at the weekly island farmers’ market. The Washington State Farmers Market Association (WSFMA) has an immediate opening for an administrative assistant.  This part-time position starts at 20 hours/week for approximately three months and then would drop to approximately 15 hours/week.  Primary responsibilities include completing the annual membership renewal process, coordinating the annual membership brochure, responding to email and telephone inquiries from members and general administrative work.  We are looking for someone who is a self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough understanding of farmers market operations, strong attention to detail and likes office procedures.  Experience managing farmers markets is highly desired.  There is no formal office at this point so the successful candidate must be able to work independently, and have access to office space and basic office equipment (computer, printer and phone).  The position reports to the Interim Executive Director.
