Zenger Farm seeks Apprentices/Youth Education Intern

21 Jan

Location: Portland, Oregon

With busy Foster Road whizzing by just outside the Zenger Farm gate, first-time visitors may be surprised to find 10 acres of protected wetland and a 6-acre farm nestled just out of sight. The farm includes 2.5 acres of annual and perennial crops, a flock of laying hens rotating in their mobile coop through the fields, seasonal turkeys hunting and pecking for bugs in the orchard, and active honey bees on the hunt for flowers. Zenger Farm is currently hiring Spring/Summer/Fall Apprentices and a Youth Education Intern.

The farm was operated by the Zenger family as a dairy for almost a century (for more information, go to About the Farm ).  In 1995 Urban Bounty Farm began growing vegetables on the land and educating local kids about food and farming.  In 1999, Friends of Zenger Farm was established, and the non-profit worked in partnerships with Urban Bounty Farm and later 47th Avenue Farm to grow sustainable local produce and to teach youth and adults about healthy food and healthy farms.
