Gardening the Community seeks a Project Coordinator

Location: Springfield, Massachusetts

Gardening the Community, a project of the Northeast Organic Farming Association/Massachusetts Chapter, Inc, is a group of adults and young people who revitalize vacant lots and transform them into productive organic vegetable gardens in the inner city of Springfield, MA.  The produce from the land is sold at markets, restaurants and brought home by the youth.  All transport of food and people is done by pedaling – bicycles and bike trailers –to reduce urban pollution, increase youth mobility and independence, build strong and healthy bodies, and facilitate community interaction. The goal of the program is to introduce, instill, and put to practice concepts of sustainable living, food security, self-sufficiency, and beauty in an urban environment. Continue reading

Washington State Department of Agriculture seeks a Farm-to-School Project Coordinator

Location: Seattle, Washington

Deadline: January 15, 2010

This is a three year, full-time project position.  Location is preferred in Seattle. Travel is required with possible overnight stays.

The WSDA Farm-to-School Program is dedicated to fostering relationships between schools and agricultural producers in Washington State. Our goal is to support expanding economic opportunities for farmers while educating students about the connections between food, farming, health, and the environment. The program provides information, inspiration, assistance, and policy solutions for those working to supply healthy Washington-grown food and related education to youth in our State. Continue reading
