Washington State: King County Food and Fitness Initiative seeks Program Manager

The King County Food and Fitness Initiative (KCFFI) is seeking a .70 Program Manager. The goal of the KCFFI is to support healthy eating and active living among vulnerable children and their families by promoting environments that support healthy behaviors. KCFFI is funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. The Program Manager has primary responsibility and decision making authority for managing the implementation of KCFFI’s Community Action Plan (CAP). Responsibilities include: stewarding and overseeing the CAP activities, representing KCFFI in policy development and implementation activities, coordinating and integrating activities of collaborating agencies and organizations including program evaluation, monitoring the performance of subcontractors, staffing the coalition leadership and facilitating meetings. Seattle: Harvest Against Hunger seeks Intern

Harvest Against Hunger, a program of Rotary First Harvest, seeks a part-time intern June 28 through September 24, 2010. This is a great opportunity to work with an innovative organization whose mission is to act as a conduit between food producers and hunger relief agencies in the state of Washington.  Harvest Against Hunger connects surplus produce from farms, markets, and backyard gardeners with hunger relief efforts in local communities throughout Washington.

This internship position will focus on maintaining and developing food recovery projects on farms in King and Snohomish Counties and from farmers markets in Seattle. Continue reading

Washington State: WSU seeks School Food and Fitness Coordinator

Primarily responsible for creating, implementing, coordinating and evaluating programming to support the Community Action Plan (CAP) of the King County Food and Fitness Initiative and associated policy changes. Activities include leading focused efforts in two specific limited income public schools each year over the three year implementation period (totaling six schools over three years) as they relate to school wellness policies, improving meal and snack quality, farm to school, school gardening, safe routes to schools, physical activitiy and education, and school wellness advisory councils. Schools will be in the Seattle and/or Highline School Districts. Coordinator will develop and maintain relationships with school staff, parents, policy- and decision-makers, and community partners to support the policy and systems changes in schools to meet the goals of increasing access and opportunities for heathy eating and physical activitiy for students. The School Food and Fitness Coordinator will coordinate the School Food and Fitness Strategy Action Team, will maintain communication and collaboration with other areas of the Initiatives (e.g. healthy food retail workgroup and safe spaces to be active workgroup), as well as provide ongoing reporting to the Leadership Council for the initiative. Sustainable Connections (SC) seeks part-time Program Assistant and Public Relations Coordinator to implement a range of public events, outreach, marketing and PR projects related to building relationships with and for food producers and buyers within the Food & Farming Program (20 hours), and to assist with general SC press releases and events calendaring (8 hours). The Program Assistant / PR Coordinator will report to the Food & Farming Program Manager.

The Food & Farming Program informs, empowers & provides resources to producers & buyers; makes connections between farmers, institutions, retailers & restaurants; and raises awareness and support of local farms. We are seeking a personable outreach and PR professional that is passionate about serving the interests of our vibrant local business members, and about increasing the capacity of the local food system. The successful candidate will have professional experience and/or training in PR or Communications, managing recruitment and messaging campaigns, engaging Whatcom County small businesses in events or initiatives, and demonstrated strong writing and interpersonal communication skills.
