Boston: The Student Conservation Association seeks Interns

Location: Boston area, Massachusetts

This year SCA is offering a new sustainability program to host interns who can live locally in Boston for the summer and serve at an internship focused on some aspect of sustainability.

The interns are required to have local housing and will receive a $250 subsistence allowance to help with general living expenses and commuting costs. The interns are also eligible for AmeriCorps Education Awards upon completion of service that can be used towards future education or current loans. The award amount varies depending on number of hours served. Most positions are 10-11 weeks in length, but some are as long as a year.

Massachusetts: Take Back the Kitchen at Haley House seeks Chef Instructor

We are seeking a part-time, experienced Chef to lead our afternoon and evening cooking classes in our commercial kitchen in Roxbury, MA. Classes may be for children, teenagers or adults and focus on eating whole foods and cooking from scratch while empowering students from the inner city with information about food justice. Our classes are vegetable focused, but not completely vegetarian and the recipes must be healthful, delicious, replicable and affordable. City of Boston seeks Director of Food Initiatives

In December 2008, Mayor Thomas M. Menino established the Boston Food Council to ensure access to healthy food and expand local food sources for the residents and businesses of Boston and the region. The Council, composed of representatives from the public, private and non-profit sectors of the food industry, provides a broad range of expertise and resources to inform a city-wide food agenda. The Council established four goals, each with a related set of initiatives, to address the directive set forward by the Mayor: 1) Increase access to healthy and affordable food, 2) Expand Boston’s capacity to produce, distribute and consume local food 3) Promote food as an economic development strategy and 4) Expand private and public partnerships to advance the food agenda.
